We are pleased to announce “New Services” now available at NDE Professionals, Inc. We now have equipment, staff and procedures to help with your Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) or Performance Qualifications inspection and testing requirements. These are vital steps when assigning a job to a welder. We conduct a welder qualification test (WQT) to determine the skill of a welder and if they can produce a sound weld.

We apologize for the delay, but we are still working on getting a new version for anyone that would like one.

Once it has been determined that you have a need to qualify welders to a process or position, we can provide:

  • CWI/VT Level II Inspectors to witness qualifications at your facility
  • CWI/Visual Examination, Liquid Penetrant Examination, Magnetic Particle Examination, Ultrasonic Examination, or Radiographic Examination of the complete test coupon(s), as required by the referencing Code at our facility
  • Sectioning of the Specimen For Testing at our facility
  • Bend Testing to Code Requirements at our facility

We start with a welded test coupon, which should be in accordance with the welding procedures specification (WPS), then a visual inspection and possibly MT/PT (if applicable) are performed per the approved procedures. Then the final welded test coupon is Radiography (RT) or Ultrasonic (UT) tested and possibly mechanical testing (per the code). After a passing test report the welder may begin production or fabricating welding.

In addition to the above new service we also offer Bend Testing. Bend Testing is a simple and inexpensive qualitative test that can be used to evaluate both the ductility and soundness of a material and weld joint. There are 4 common types of bend tests. The guided bend test is a relatively quick and, usually, a comparatively economical method of establishing the soundness of a groove weld. This test is designed to help determine whether the weldment tested contains discontinuities such as cracks, lack of fusion, inadequate penetration or severe porosity. Many welding codes require bend tests as part of the testing required to qualify welders and welding procedures specifications (WPSs). The concept of a bend test for welds is simple: two plates are welded together and a flat strap of metal is cut from the welded plates. Next, the flat strap of a prescribed size is bent into a U-shape, stretching the material on the outer surface of the "U," while compressing the material on the inside surface. The purpose is to make certain the weld and the base metal are properly fused, and that the weld metal and the heat affected zone (HAZ) have appropriate mechanical properties.

If you have a need for any of the above services or questions regarding the process please contact us and we will be happy to walk you through the process.
